Overview

In its third year in 2019, Actsafe's Event Safety Conference brings together a broad range of stakeholders from festivals, performing arts and live event venues, health and safety organizations, event production suppliers, education providers, service organizations, municipalities, and labour unions to network and learn about event safety from a range of experts in their fields.

In 2018 over 200 delegates attended from across British Columbia, Eastern Canada and the US, and from as far away as the UK.

Taking place March 7–8, 2019 at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Burnaby Conference Centre in Burnaby, B.C., the 2019 conference will be jam-packed with informative sessions, 20+ tradeshow exhibitors, live demonstrations in the Riggit Truss Cube on the tradeshow floor, free industry training (scheduled prior to conference dates), and three social evenings (starting the night before the main event)!

Over two days, take in 40 90-minute workshops, interactive demonstrations, roundtable sessions, and panel discussions with experts in their fields.

In response to popular demand, we've incorporated two themed "tracks" into our programming. Interested in live events planning? Find lots of sessions for you on March 7 as part of our Live Events Track. Focused on the technical side of the industry? You can find at least one session in each time slot on March 8 as part of our Rigging Track, sponsored by Riggit Services Inc.

Stop by Alpina Bar in the Grand Villa Casino for an icebreaker networking event on Wednesday, March 6 starting at 7:00pm – the evening prior to the conference – to meet and mingle over appies.

Optional Add-on Content: We're thrilled to welcome back UK-based crowd safety expert Eric Stuart of Gentian Events Ltd. to present his wildly popular 2-day Crowd Safety Workshop again in 2019! Conference delegates save $50 on workshop registration. NOTE (Feb. 6): Both workshops are now fully booked! Join the waitlist to be notified if space opens up.

Conference programming runs from 8:00am–5:00pm on Thursday, March 7 and 9:00am–5:00pm on Friday, March 8.

Attend the only conference in the Pacific Northwest focused on sharing knowledge about making live events and performing arts workplaces safe for workers and audiences alike!

Keynote: Mayhem at Events, and How to Prevent (Some of) It

The conference kicks off bright and early at 8:00am on Thursday, March 7 with a welcome followed by a keynote presentation by sports and entertainment lawyer Steven A. Adelman, head of Adelman Law Group, PLLC in Scottsdale, Arizona and Vice President of the Event Safety Alliance.

Despite what some people suggest, there are few "best practices" in the event industry. Instead, we have to make judgments about the reasonably foreseeable risks under our own circumstances.

Steven will use stirring oratory and lawyerly reasoning to explore the ultimate risk management question: What could go wrong?
