About the session
This session will provide a concise overview of the use of firearms in film and television, beginning with a brief introduction and historical context. It will examine the advantages and disadvantages of using blank-firing firearms on set, as well as the benefits and alternatives offered by CGI gunfire. Participants will gain insight into the various types and classifications of firearms used in today’s film and television industry, along with the associated safety approaches and considerations applied across all productions. The session will conclude with an open Q&A.
Rob Fournier
Master Armourer / Technical Advisor
Rob Fournier started his career in Film & Television, at the age of 24, shortly after receiving an Honourable Discharge from the Canadian Armed Forces (Infantry, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, 1986-1991). Rob attended the Vancouver Film School acting program for 1.5 years (1993-1994). During his progress of gaining roles in acting, and stunt work, Rob met an Armourer on set by the name of Tom Felcan. After numerous questions, and phone calls, Tom Felcan trained Rob Fournier to be an On-Set Armourer for Film & Television.
After a 1 year apprenticeship at Felcan Enterprises, Rob became a certified Armourer in the province of British Columbia. Almost 32 years later, Rob has filmed across Canada, and Internationally, including in Europe, and Southeast Asia. Rob Has accumulated well over 300+ credits in Feature Films & Television (IMDb, IMDb Pro), and is regarded as one of the top Film & Television Armourer’s world-wide. Rob is known to be extremely safe, highly knowledgeable, and rated as an excellent Firearms Instructor when training Actors, Stunt Performers, and Background Performers.
