About the Session
Creative industry workplaces are fast-moving, people-heavy environments where illness can spread quickly and disrupt entire productions, events, venues, and crews. This practical session will look beyond COVID-specific guidance and focus on communicable disease prevention as part of everyday workplace health and safety planning.
Drawing from Actsafe resources on bloodborne pathogens, foodborne illness, and infectious disease materials, this presentation will explore common exposure risks in film, television, live events, and performing arts settings. From sharps, blood, and body-fluid exposures on location, to food safety concerns at catering and craft services, to stomach bugs and respiratory illness prevention during flu season. The session will highlight practical controls, worker training, hygiene practices, exposure response, and planning considerations that help protect workers while keeping productions and creative workplaces moving safely.
The goal is to support supervisors, workers, safety personnel, and employers in recognizing communicable disease risks early and applying realistic prevention strategies that fit the unique pace, locations, and working conditions of the creative industries.
