Head Stage Carpenter and Assistant Technical Director, Royal Theatre & McPherson Playhouse / IATSE Local 168
Tom Heemskerk is the long-serving Head Stage Carpenter and Assistant Technical Director at Victoria’s Royal Theatre, which is one of the very few road-houses with a ‘hemp’ fly system still in use. He made his first serious foray into rigging as farm boy, making a spliced rope halter for his 4-H calf when he was nine, and he continues to seize upon new tricks and techniques.
Tom is an ETCP Certified Rigger in both Arena and Theatre, and is a member of the International Guild of Knot Tyers.
And if you’re wondering, the calf never once got away on him.
